Meeting was called to order by Chairman Tim Wisniewski at 1:35 PM

The agenda was accepted as presented.
4. APPROVAL OF MINUTES OF FEBRUARY 9, 1988
The minutes were approved as presented.
5. OLD BUSINESS
a. Proposal for Trash Containers

Council Member Geraldine Sparks moved, seconded by Council
Member Pat McComsey, to place an order for a minimum of five
garbage cans, in cedar with fasteners on the base, or as many as
the budget will allow.
Motion carried by unanimous consent.

b. Review of Meeting with Parks and Recreation Commission
Parks and Recreation Director Kayo McGillivray reported that
the motions made at the joint meeting were presented at the
Council last Monday. The Planning and Zoning Commission, Parks
· and Recreation Commission and the Council will meet tomorrow
night in a work session. The R-V park subject will be a major
topic of discussion.
6. NEW BUSINESS
Discussion was held regarding spring flowers. Council
Member Nina Selby was asked to call Dan at Trinity Nursery to get
the name of flowers she had seen, and ideas for planting.
7. COMMITTEE QUESTIONS AND COMMENTS

Council Member Geraldine Sparks asked for an update on the
cards Sally Bailie was working on to have printed. Chairman Tim
Wisniewski reported that they were held up at the printers
waiting for a P.O.

In Attendance: Senior Citizens Project Director Pat Porter: Memorial Park
Committee Member Sally Bailey; and Janet Loper, Secretary
2. LEIF HANSEN MEMORIAL PARK
Committee Member Sally Bailey reported that the American Legion put in
a petition to the City Council concerning the naming of the Leif Hansen
Memorial Park. They are making a concerted effort to change the name of the
park. They listed four points:
1. Requested the minutes of the City of Kenai, and the City
Beautification Committee, be produced showing the process of determining the
name of and authority for the Leif Hansen Memorial Park.
2. Requested the City Council to consider the appropriateness of
procedures used for naming the Leif Hansen Memorial Park.
3. Requested the City Council reconsider the naming of the
aforementioned park. Furthermore, it is requested that the renaming of the
park be brought before the people of the city of Kenai for discussion.
4. The American Legion Post 20 submits the following name for
consideration by the City Council: Kenai Peninsula Community Memorial Park.
No action was taken by the City Council.
It was suggested that this Committee advise the City Council that in
the future, if there is any type of controversy that arises Before Council,
that this Committee would appreciate being forewarned concerning it, so that
representation could be arranged.

There was general discussion regarding the Memorial Park Dedication.
Secretary Janet Loper reported that the flowers are ordered. They are just
waiting for word from the nursery.
3. ADJOURNMENT
Meeting adjourned at 2:15 PM. The next meeting will be a combined
meeting of the Beautification Committee and the Memorial Park Committee.
This will be held on May 31, 1988.
