4. OLD BUSINESS
a. City of Kenai Flag
Director McGillivray had received the shipment of City of Kenai
flags and brought one to the meeting so that the members could look at
it. It appeared to be very well made, the colors were what was
ordered and the committee members were unanimous in their approval.
b. Welcome to Kenai Sign
A brief special meeting was held on July 31, 1990 to choose from
the two designs presented to the C(mmuittee for the Welcome to Kenai
Sign. The choice was between Sherman Signs and Designs. After a
lengthy discussion, the Committee unanimously decided on Scott Kodysz
of Designs.
Scott Kodysz was asked to appear at the August 14th meeting with
his final, revised design for committee approval. After a brief
discussion, the sign was approved and Mr. Kodysz stated that he had
already started the framework for the sign. It was decided that on
the back side of the sign would be a salmon and the words "Thank You
For Visiting the Kenai Peninsula" and "Help Keep Alaska Clean".
In regard to the sign on the Kasilof Highway, Mr. Kodysz will
talk to Fred Braun and get the details ironed out and that design
started also.
c. Leif Hansen Memorial Park
,,
Chairman Sparks reported to the Committee that she and Committee
Member McComsey went to the last Council meeting and spoke about the
need for additional sidewalks in Memorial Park. There was not much
reaction from the Council members and there will be no additional
sidewalks as of now. Director McGillivray stated that next spring, if
the existing spaces are full, the council may approve more sidewalks
at that time.
It was decided that the Parks and Recreation Commission would be
asked if trees could be planted in other areas of the park as long as
they were not put on future sidewalk space.
d. Banners
Chairman Sparks gave a report on the ordering of the new banners
for next year. A total of eighty-five made-to-order banners and
hardware will be ordered. They are all a combination of red, white
and blue and will be free-hanging so as to hopefully incur less wind
damage.
