BEAUTIFICATION COMMITTEE
March 14, 1995
WORK SESSION 1'30
Members Present: Susan Hett, Loretta Breeden, Sylvia Johnson.
Also present: Kayo McGillivray, Linda Swarner, Bob Frates, Sheryl Paulsen
(recording secretary). Susan stated that Jeanine Benedict had resigned; Sheryl said
Nina Selby had called to say she was ill and could not attend today.
Because there was not a forum, it was decided to have a work session.
Kayo stated that the Parks & Rec budget has been turned in with only one change'
the small tools account from which is purchased Christmas decorations was
lowered from about $4,700 to $3,000. He said some of the decorations are being
refurbished to save buying new ones. Kayo also stated that there will be no extra
help available during the summer months. He suggested the Committee build a
strong volunteer group to do watering, etc. Finally, Kayo passed around pictures
of greenhouses made by the McConley Company of Sumner, Washington. He said
they quoted him $9,942.50 for a 24x36 building with no heating system.
Susan advised the group of the following events'
Alaska Landscaping Course
March 21 at Cook Inlet Aquaculture from 8'00 to 4'00.
Kenaitze Gardening Party
March 31 and April 1 at Merit Inn.
Volunteer Reception
April 24, 6:00-8'00 p.m. at Visitor's Center.
Kayo reported that at the Council's work session on 3/13/95 it was decided to build
at least three new restroom facilities' one each at Cunningham Park, the beach and
the ball park on Main Street Loop.
