Heus had read an article in the Alaska Library Network
newsletter regarding the American Disabilities Act that
required libraries to complete a sel~-evaluation study by
January 26, 1993, and asked if Kenai was preparing an
evaluation. She was advised that Kenai has received an
evaluation package and will be working on it. DeForest
.-wil 1 share the evaluation with the Commission upon
completion. The purpose is basically to see in what areas
the library is in compliance and what areas it is not.

Future Building Issues. DeForest showed the Commission a
pamphlet by the City showing state grants to be pursued,
and the library expansion is third on the list under
economic development and tourism. It looks encouraging.
One concern regarding expansion was the parking; however,
Mr. LaShot from the City has read over the codes and feels
if the hump is taken out between the two parking lots and
the two made into one lot, then it could pass the code.
Decisions need to be made regarding the needs of the
library such as listening booths, whether more public-use
computer space would be needed, and how much room is needed
for different types o~ automation. Two booklets have been
requested by DeForest. Publications and resource
materials regarding the planning o~ libraries need to be
gathered and brought to next month's meeting ~or further
discussion.

o~ the bill. I~ the library is lucky, the money might come
through in January. Discussion ~ollowed regarding the
process necessary to receive the money.
Heus reported the Friends o~ the Library Board is preparing
a pamphlet for library patrons describing the services
offered, hours of service, and directing them where things
are located in the library. They are also establishing a
dues structure for the Friends to provide people who are
interested in supporting the library at various levels and
