April 19 - 24th in Eugene Oregon. Kayo passed around the b~ochu~e.
b. State Association of Pa~ks & Recreation
This was a Board meeting and Kayo is now president. The o~iginal
p~esident ~esigned her position to move to Washington. The State
conference will be in Home~ in September this year. The summe~ board
meeting will be in Kenai in July. Kayo is hoping to get the state
conference in Kenai next year.
Little Lea~ue
They are trying to ~aise money and also have a need fo~ space for play
and p~actice. The p~oblem is that the~e a~e not enough fields to
accommodate using the fieids fo~ p~actice fo~ the ~egula~ teams.
d. Ski Trip
Another ski t~ip is planned fo~ the high school fo~ spring break. The
bus leaves the teen center for Alyeska this Thursday. This has been
very popular.
e, Landscaping Proposal
This is the project being undertaken by the Beautification Committee.
RFP's have been ~equested and have gone to publication. The~e is no
dolla~ figure as yet. The firm ~ecieving the p~oposal will come up

wi~h the dolla~ figure which is just for the design and maintenance
guide, the work will be up to the c~ews ~he city all ready has on line
fo~ summer hi~e.
5. OLD BUSINE$5
a. Budqet - Includinq End of Year Finances
There was no quorum at the last special meeting where the budget was
discussed to approve the budget.

Motion passed unanimously.
b:___E!ks Use Of ....Gym
The Commission referred a decision to the Council regarding the use of
the gym by the Elks Club for their annual meeting. The Council voted
to approve the use ~equested subject to special cove~ings on the floor
and cleaning by the o~ganization. Commissioner Siebert discussed the
use of the gym but most of the discussion was inaudible.
e. City .League Basketball
Kayo gave a brief report.
d. Arco 3esse Owens Games

The district meet will be held in Kenai, with a younge~ age group this
year (8 & 9 yea~ olds) but will not go on to the Anchorage
competition. F~om the regional competition in Anchorage only 12 years
old and up will go on to National. Some events have been added.
Kayo suggested getting public works to look at the old dump site for
use as a practice field. This was discussed last year, but later
dropped
Kayo has recieved some horseshoes and will look at putting in some
pits around the Center.
Chairman Hultberg asked about putting up more benches, however, Kayo
mentioned the high damage/vandalism ~ate.

6. NEW BUS I NESS

7. BEAUTIFICATION COMMITTEE
Kavo explained that the Committee had ~equested $5,,000 fo~ a land-
sea,plng plan. The Committee had ~equested an addltlon of 240 hou~ to
the Pa~ks budget fo~ a person to work through September. The Committee
also discussed concrete curb-like structures to surround the circle
plantin§s; Kayo voiced hi~ concerns about b~eakage by snowplows.
Kayo and the Commission discussed having a member from the Beautification
Committee attend the Parks & Recreation Commission meetings to keep
lines of communication open. Chalrman Hultberg suggested movlng item
7 to the beginning if the Committee Member so wished in order not to
have to stay through the entlre meeting.
MOTION:
Commissione~ McComsey moved to ~equest a membe~ of the Beautification
Committee attend the Pa~ks & Recreation Commission meetlngs to sha~e
communications seconded by Commissione~ $iekawltch.
VOTE:
Motion passed by unanimous ~oll call vote.
