ROLL CALL e 4~ P&R Commission Members: Present: Hulkberg, Bryson~ McComsey, Sieber~, Wright Absent: Siekawiteh, Thomas - Excused Beautification Committee Members: Present: Nelson, Sheldon, Routh, Saling, Wisniewski Also Present: Mayo~ Wagone~ and Council, City Manager, P&R Director, and Jim Simeroth - Summe~ Employee Supervisor PERSONS SCHEDULED TO BE HEARD a. 3otn~ Meeting with Beautification Committee and Ron Kasprisin Mr. Kasprisin gave a report on the research tha~ has been done to da~e concerning the Landscaping Mas~er PIan of downtown Kenai. Discussed was accelerating a ~maI1 portion of the plan for possible compIetion this summer. APPROVAL OF MINUTES of April 2, 1985 Minutes approved as submitted DIRECTOR' s REPORT _a..: .... Northwest ..R.e~io.nalI .Conference _o[ ~..P. ar~s .& Re.creat.i..o_n. Kayo gave a report on the Regional Conference in Eugene Oregon which he at~ended. b. Summer Hires N'o more applications are being taken. Of those applications, there are still a few positions ~o be filled. Mr. Jim Simeroth f~om the High School will be the overall supervisor. Val Jones has left ~he Cente~ and her position will be filled. PARKS & RECREATION COMMISSION May 7, 1985 Page 2 There are going to be some problems with start-up time and scheduling due to weather. The men's softball team will be donating $1100 to the department to help with field maintenance. The City must determine that no public use exists for these !ands before they can be offered for sale. Recommendations of no use have been received f~om the Public Safety Depts. The Pa~ks & Recreation Commission also recommends no interest. ~_. ..... Eqq.,..ipmen. t_ The Commission discussed placing traiI markers beside bike traiis, fitness t~aiis, etc. A b~ochure was passed around, however, no action taken at this time. The signs a~e flexible and colored and wouId advise direction, , "no vehicles allowed" etc. Kayo will assess the need and cost and return at the next meeting with a report and recommendation. 5. OLD BUSINESS a_~,~ Budg.e~ Kayo ~epo~ted that the P&R budge~ had been tentatively approved with the only cut being Kayo's g~ade increase. 6. NEW BUSINESS Kayo handed ou[ the new Atlas and gave a report on the revised Landscaping O~dinance, 7~m BEAUTIFICATION COMMITTEE REPORT a. No quorum at the iast meeting.
