ROLL CALL Present: Hultberg, Carlson, McComsey, Siebert, Siekawitch 2. PERSONS SCHEDULED TO BE HEARD None~ APPROVAL OF MINUTES of June ~0, 1986 Minutes approved as submitted 4. DIRECTOR'~ REPORT a. Arco 3esse Owens Arco 3esse Owens completed - Kayo accompanied group to Los Angeles, August ?- IOth. Nearly I50 youngsters competed in Kenai. Winners from eight regions competed in L.A. The Sou~h AIaska ~egion had one medal winne~ with seve~ai pIacing 4th and 5th. The summer p~og~ams a~e just about finished. Most of the ~umme~ employees will be terminating in the next week o~ so. Good crews ~his summer in all a~eas. Beautification, ballfieIds, pa~ks, summer rec. c. Seedinq Areas seeded this year - airport, grass landlng strip; Oid Towne; Chamber of Commerce; Recreation Centers, areas of the green The City is getting greener all ~he time. We have already had 4 and 1 o~ 2 more a~e scheduled. They were set up this year on ~he old FAA footbaiI fields. This is because of ~he seeding projec~ by the Chamber. The City has ~aken care of wate~ supply and trash hauling. e. ARPA State Conference The Aiaska Park & Recreation State Conference is being held in Anchorage on Septembe~ lIth & 12th. Kayo reported he wouId have a PARKS & RECREATON COMMISSION August 19, 1986 Page 2 State Board meeting the lOth. He also encouraged commissioners to attend if possible. f. Teen Center Kayo presented the Commission with a copy of the Food Service Inspection Report from the snack bar at the Center. The score was 98. 5. OLD BUSINESS Softball - Art McComsey reported that volunteers would probably start clearing the area north of Treat Cabinets shortly after the state tournament on August 24th. As much work as possible will be done on the area this year. Kayo presented the Commission some schematics of a proposed area for youth baseball and softball in the area of the old dump site. Again, development of this area is going to depend on volunteer labor and equipment to a degree. NEW BUS I NESS a. MemoriaI Park A new committee has been formed for the purpose of development of a memorial park in the triangle strip in front of the Time Saver. In the Kasprisin Plan it is described as the Eastern Entry Triangle Park and was slated for some type of development as funds permitted. The Memorial Park is named the Leif Hansen Memorial Park and will be funded with $50,000 from the revenue sharing monies. e Chairman Hultberg and Commissioner Siebert attended the meeting this date held at noon and reported on the plans to this point. BEAUTIFICATION COMMITTEE REPORT The Beautification Committee has been combined in part with the Memorial Park Committee and the report is above. 8~ COMMISSION COMMENTS & QUESTIONS None 9.
