ADJOURNMENT KENAI PARKS & RECREATION COMMISSION October 7, 1986 - 7:00 PM Kenai~ City Hall Richard Hultberg, Chairman 1. ROLL CALL Present: Hultberg, Carlson, McComse¥, Seibert, Siekawitch Also. Present- Kayo McGillivra¥, Director 2. PERSONS SCHEDULED TO BE HEARD a. Luann Raisbeck Luann Raisbeck gave a report on the Summer Recreation program held at Sears Elementary. She also presented some suggestions to the Commission for next year. There was a lengthy discussion held on the suggestion but no action taken at this time. Report and suggestions attached. 3. APPROVAL OF MINUTES of August 19, 1986 Minutes were approved as submitted 4. DIRECTOR' S REPORT a. Summer Activities , , The summer activities are about finished. Ail flower boxes are stored and mowing, etc. finished for the year. Equipment is being cleaned and winterized ready for next year. Kayo felt a lot was accomplished and that the summer crews were probably the best we've had. b. Airport Triangle Director McGillivra¥ reported what is to be done there and also presented copies of Beautification Committee meeting (minutes) in regard to the triangle. c. State Conference - Anchorage The conference was held September 10th & 12th. A total of 91 registered for the conference from around the state. Director McGillivra¥ and Luann Raisbeck attended from our staff and Commissioners Hultberg and Seibert representing the Commission. Comments from many attending that it was the best state conference ever. PARKS & RECREATi COMMISSION October 7, 1986 Page 2 National Conference .- Anahiem, California The conference will be held October 17 - 21st. Director McGillivra¥ will attend leaving October 16th and returning October 21st. There are over 700 exhibitors registered and close to 4,000 Park & Recreation people already registered for the conference. e. Pi~e from Amoco Kayo reported that Amoco had again donated pipe to the Parks & Recreation Dept. Approximately 3600 feet are to be used wherever needed for barricades, etc. Kayo has written letters to Amoco for the pipe, API, Inc. for loading the pipe, and Lyndon Transport for hauling to the City Shop yard. This was very much appreciated. 5. OLD BUSINESS a. Softball Field Construction No action taken b. Little League Fields & Proposed Complex Director McGillivra¥ presented drawings of a proposed Recreation Complex that would provide fields for Little League bseball and softball fields and other recreational programs. NOTE- After considerable discussion on the above item, no action was taken, however, a second meeting was set to continue discussion. 6. NEW BUSINESS a. Correspondence from Mrs. Shaw and Repl~ No discussion b. Letter from Police Chief Ross Director McGillivra¥ presented a letter from Chief Ross pertaining to off-road vehicles in the City Parks. NOTE' After considerable discussion on the above item, no action was taken, however, a second meeting was set to continue discussion. c. Cit% League Basketball - Gym Use No discussion 7.
