KENAI PLANNING ~ ZONING COMMISSION
REGULAR MEETING - JANUARY 26, 1972
AL HUDSON - VICE CHAIRMAN
ROLL CALL: Members present - Al Cruver, James Elson, and Vice
C airman Al Hu son.
Members absent - Nick Poppin (excused) ~ ~~%~-c-~ ~~' l'+~~
The Vice Chairman called the meeting to order and
recessed the meeting due to lack of a quorum.
At 8:00 P.M., Vice Chairman Al Hudson opened the
meeting for a Public Hearing on the concept of
trailer regulations within the City of Kenai.
The purpose of this meeting is to get the imput from
the community.
The Vice Chairman asked each person speaking to state
their name and where they live.
Mr. Jaynes explained two maps of the City he had on
display.
Roger Meeks of Peninsula Ave. - "In years to come
there is going to be a need for this thing, but it
is pre-mature.'' He feels that as long as .the trailers
are hooked up according to code and only one trailer to
a 7,200 sq. ft lot, they should be permitted.
Bob Britt of Peninsula Ave. - Mr. Britt stated that if
he wanted to enlarge his business by replacing one
trainer with a larger one this would not be allowed
as existing trailers may stay but not be replaced.
W, L, Hood of Linwood Drive - 'Let the town take care
of itself, don't run the trailers out".
Russel James - '-'Our church has a lot near Hartleys.
They ~rould like to put a double wide trailer there
to be used for a church.
J.M. Miller - Tinker Lane. - "The boom has hit and gone.
Tt may happen again. Why chase people off before.."
W, L, Hood "If you move them out, who'll pay the
taxes?"
J, M. Miller - Kenai has no stable economy, the majority
of people live in trailers,

James E. Fisher - Redoubt Terrace - "I have lived in
a trailer house and am guilty of having one door
blocked from egress. I favor regulating trailers in
1/4 of the City - which leaves 3/4 open to trailers.
I strongly feel the need for a ban on commercial trailers
or places of public assembly. The Fire Chief says
trailers have been giving him a lot of trouble. Nearly
all the fire fatalities in the last five years have been
trailer fires. I favor regulations for future planning.
W.L. Hood - "Let Kenai get back on its feet - Who
makes up a town? People."
Bob Britt - Why an ordinance? Why can't you enforce
it by building code?
Roger Meeks - "I know it is eventually coming. Trailers
are not up to standard but if restrict a minimum lot
size for trailers."
Roy Jahrig Mission Ave. - "I would sacrifice my
trailers i~ the City would move some of the burned
down shacks."
Roger Meeks - ''Will this come up for a vote of the
people?"
J.M, Miller - ''Z think it should come to a vote. I
wouldn~t want to see it any other way."
There being no mare public participation, Mr. Hudson
adjourned the meet~,ng, stating that if anyone had any
questions, feel free to call on any of the Planning
~ Zoning Members .
