KENAI SENIOR CENTER 361 SENIOR CT., KENAI, AK 99611 CHAIR KEN AYERS, PRESIDING ACTION MINUTES A. CALL TO ORDER A Regular Meeting of the Council on Aging was held on December 12, 2024, at the Kenai Senior Center, Kenai, AK. Chair Ayers called the meeting to order at approximately 3:00 p.m. 1. Pledge of Allegiance Chair Ayers led those assembled in the Pledge of Allegiance. 2. Roll Call There were present: Ken Ayers, Chair Velda Geller Frances Kilfoyle Jim Glendening A quorum was present. Rachael Craig, Vice Chair Barbara Modigh Kit Hill William Sadler Also in attendance were: Kathy Romain, Senior Center Director Red Piersee, Senior Center Administrative Assistant Shellie Saner, City Clerk 3. Agenda Approval MOTION: Commissioner Hill MOVED to approve the agenda as presented. Vice Chair Craig SECONDED the motion. VOTE: There being no objection; SO ORDERED. B. SCHEDULED PUBLIC COMMENTS - None. C. UNSCHEDULED PUBLIC COMMENTS - None. D. APPROVAL OF MINUTES 1. November 12, 2024 Regular Meeting Minutes MOTION: Commissioner Hill MOVED to approve the November 12, 2024 Council on Aging minutes. Vice Chair Craig SECONDED the motion. VOTE: There being no objection; SO ORDERED. E. UNFINISHED BUSINESS Council on Aging Meeting December 12, 2024 Page 1 of 3 Discussion/Recommendation - Recommending Council Investigate the Need for Additional Senior Housing. [This item was not taken up during the November 14, 2024 meeting.] MOTION: Commissioner Glendening MOVED to recommend that Council investigate the need for additional senior housing. Commissioner Modigh SECONDED the motion. Commissioners Glendening, Ayers, Sadler and Craig spoke in support. VOTE: YEA: Ayers, Craig, Sadler, Geller, Modigh, Kilfoyle, Glendening, Hill NAY: None. MOTION PASSED UNANIMOUSLY. F. NEW BUSINESS 1. Review/Approve - Council on Aging 2024 Annual Report for Submission to City Council. MOTION: Commissioner Hill MOVED to approve the Council on Aging 2024 Annual Report provided in the laydown for submission to the City Council. Commissioner Glendening SECONDED the motion. VOTE: YEA: Ayers, Craig, Sadler, Geller, Modigh, Kilfoyle, Glendening, Hill NAY: None. MOTION PASSED. UNANIMOUSLY. G. REPORTS 1. Senior Center Director — Director Romain reported on the following: • Thanked the Council on Aging for their years of hard work. • Kenai Senior Center putting the transit grant on hold until next year; going to replace a van this year out of the vehicle replacement fund. • Received a small grant to utilize for shelving for shelf stable food. • State of Alaska grant opportunity for emergency preparedness funding with leftover COVID- 19 funds. 2. Commission Chair — Chair Ayers thanked the Senior Center staff. 3. City Council Liaison — No report. H. ADDITIONAL PUBLIC COMMENTS — None. 1. NEXT MEETING ATTENDANCE NOTIFICATION — January 9, 2025 J. COMMISSION QUESTIONS AND COMMENTS Vice Chair Craig stated would like a work session in January. Commissioner Sadler asked if the Council on Aging bylaws were on the City website; clarification was provided that they were. Commissioner Hill noted that she was excited about Senior Center activities; thanked Chair Ayers for his work. Commissioner Glendening noted that Council had discussed housing at a previous Council Meeting. Council on Aging Meeting Page 2 of 3 December 12, 2024 K. ADJOURNMENT L. INFORMATIONAL ITEMS = None.
