Good morning, City Clerk Saner and City Manager Eubanks,
This weekend I received a reminder that the September 8, 2025, Harbor Commission meeting
has been canceled. As a former chair and now a member of the commission, I am wondering
if the commission has come to its useful end? With many meetings canceled due to lack of
agenda items or quorum, or most meetings with just light discussion and no real purpose, it
may be time to look at the value of the Harbor Commission to the City of Kenai and its
citizens. I know that each meeting prep and attendance requires time and resources from your
office, the Public Works office, the City Council Liaison and the commission members.
Currently, we have only 4 members of the 7-member commission seated, so conducting
business is also a challenge. With three vacant spots, it appears that the community has also
lost interest in this commission. What is the purpose of the Harbor Commission moving
forward?
I feel a discussion with either or both of you regarding the merits of disbanding or pausing the
Harbor Commission is warranted at this time based on the reasons I stated above.
Thank you for your time and consideration and I look forward to hearing from you soon,
Lisa Gabriel
Harbor Commission Member
