Site visit to Seaveys dog sledding operations in Sterling Dinner with Seward Chamber team Site visit to Seward Sea Life Center Tour of important visitor destinations in Seward Received letter from Julie Niederhauser thanking Chip and Harold for their on -site support fo the Kenai Community Library's Dana Stabenow Science Fiction Workshop Final arrangements have been made to have three interns working for one credit to assist Natasha on projects. Interns come from the Digital Arts and History program at KPC. Next term will discuss a team of three interns representing Digital Arts, History /Anthropology, and Creative Writing to assist in development and upgrades to permanent exhibits. KCVB o Destination Marketing Kenai ads have appeared in: Alaska Coast Magazine, March 2007 issue March, 2007 issue of Outside, the same issue with the now infamous Tennessee mountain biking ad. Chip will be attending Western Association of CVB's Tourism Tech Summit, in April to come up with solutions for coordinating sales leads, media contacts, membership information, etc. Working with an arts scene travel writer from New York City for her August, 2007 visit o Visitor Center Services Newsletter is on its way! Visitation continues to increase, if we don't include March o Cultural Center Programs and Exhibits Sticks and Stones: Alaskan Structure RFP distributed for Gala catering Received $5,000 sponsorship from ConocoPhillips Raised $2,800 at sponsorship reception on March 1 Contacted Boy Scout Troop 152 about serving at the reception. I should have an answer at the Board meeting. Accreditation January 24, 2007 teleconference with Scott Carlee and Beth Merritt, Director of Accreditation Program for American Association of Museums Takes 31 to 43 months to complete accreditation process Accreditation reviews: o Public Trust and Accountability o Mission, Planning and Assessing Achievement o Leadership and Organizational Structure o Collections Stewardship o Education and Interpretation o Financial Stability o Facilities and Risk Management o ATIA Developing an in -state direct mail piece for distribution this spring. o Kenai's Saturday Market Packets available for distribution March 19, 2007 Received authorization to use the Alaska Grown logo on March 7, 2007 Received $2,000 matching grant from Division of Agriculture to cooperatively market Kenai's Saturday Market. We received verbal compliment on our grant application. o Miscellaneous Gathered information for Lauren Agni of Carrs Gottsteins Properties regarding Old Carr's grocery store. Received copy of January, 2007 KNWR Skilak Wildlife Recreation Area Final Management Plan Received request to pass a resolution in support of ongoing efforts to preserve and restore the Jesse Lee Home in Seward. KPTMC has requested $225,000 from the Borough ($150,000 for core programs and $75,000 for BrandPrint Program). Will invite Shanon to present update of BrandPrint program for April meeting. Rotary District 5010 2008 Conference will be held at the Soldotna Sports Center May 8 12, 2008. We are part of the team working on transportation and activities for this event. 2007 Monthly Emplanements at the Kenai Municipal Airport were up by 951 in January and down by 2 in February from 2006. Working with Rotary Club of Kenai on Kenai River Soap Box Derby, May 12, 2007 Reviewed Caring for the Kenai project for two KCHS students. Sponsored two prizes, both projects are likely to move forward as finalists. Will be asking Sasha to present certificate during the Gala Awarded certificate to project educating visitors about Alaska's wildlife and to project creating product for easy fish identification for anglers. Received card from Diane Kaplan, President of Rasmuson Foundation apologizing for canceling their January 28, 2007 visit due to death of a colleague. We have been asked to coordinate the Airport Welcome for the 2007 Kenai River Classic Patrons o Completed letter of interest for the Rasmuson Foundation's Effective Organization grant. Travel o March 20 22, 2007 Heritage Cultural Tourism Conference (not set) o March 29 April 1, 2007 Rotary Youth Leadership camp (personal) o April 10 -11, 2007 ATIA Marketing Committee Meeting and Legislative Fly -In o April 19 27, 2007, TIA International PowWow, largest domestic show for international tour operators.
