HomeMy WebLinkAboutResolution No. PZ2011-24Me u'ty of KENAI, ALASKA CITY OF KENAI PLANNING & ZONING COMMISSION RESOLUTION NO. PZ11 -24 SUBSTITUTE A RESOLUTION OF THE KENAI PLANNING & ZONING COMMISSION RECOMMENDING THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF KENAI NAME AN UNNAMED STREET. WHEREAS, Section 14.15.140 of the Kenai Code authorizes the Council of the City of Kenai to name and rename streets; and. WHEREAS, Section 14.15.020 of the Kenai Code provides a base line for numbering parcels; and, WHEREAS, Buccaneer Alaska Operations, LLC plans to place a drilling rig on a parcel located on an unnamed street; and, WHEREAS, an address for the site is required so that in the case of an emergency the site can be located by emergency responders; and, WHEREAS, the Planning & Zoning Administration is responsible for addressing all parcels within the City of Kenai; and, WHEREAS, to address the site requires naming of the street; and, WHEREAS, both City of Kenai and Kenai Peninsula Borough code recommends the continuation or projection of streets; and, WHEREAS, this section line if continued would align with Redoubt Avenue; and, WHEREAS, topography and the location of the Kenai Municipal Airport will restrict development of Redoubt Avenue so it could never connect to this portion of the section line; and, WHEREAS, Fredrick Pearson became a resident of the State of Alaska in 1952 or 1953; and, WHEREAS, Mr. Pearson in the late 50's built an access road which is now known as Highbush Lane to his property which is located along this unnamed section line; and, WHEREAS, Mr. Pearson received a patent for his property as a homestead in 1965; and, WHEREAS, the following street name is recommended: CURRENT NAME RECOMMENDED OFFICIAL NAME LOCATION OF CHANGE No Name Pearson Avenue Right -of -Way east of the airport proper. NOW, THEREFORE, THE PLANNING & ZONING COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF KENAI, ALASKA RECOMMENDS THE OFFICIAL STREET NAME AS NOTED ABOVE BE ADOPTED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF KENAI. PASSED BY THE PLANNING & ZONING COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF KENAI, ALASKA this 27th day of July 2011. Public Hearing/Postponed: July 13, 2011 Second Public Hearing: July 27, 2011 Approved: July 27, 2011
