The MAPP Core Group is a group of individuals, health agencies and community coalitions who are working together to engage the greater community in a process which works to improve health and quality of life through community -wide and community- driven strategic planning. M.A.P.P., which stands for Mobilizing Action through Planning and Partnerships encourages community members to take ownership of their community and to work strategically on initiatives to support and promote our community's health and well- being. The group is planning a collaborative kick off celebration on November 6th with the hope of engaging the greater community in this process. The celebration itself is a model of what can happen when we work together. Initially, three different events were being planned by separate entities: a Community Challenge celebration sponsored by Community Action, a Kenaitze Celebration seeking to have greater community participation, and the MAPP visioning process whose success relies on participation of community members. These entities have joined forces to do one big celebration which should engage a large number of community members and result in a much better outcome as a whole. 2. The November 6, 2010 Central Peninsula Community Health Celebration will combine three concurrent events. The first event is the Community Action Coalition's Community Challenge, which is a celebration of a fall semester project in which KPC Psychology students teamed up with Kenai Alternative High School students, in a mentorship capacity, in an effort to encourage positive, healthy behaviors. November 6th is the evening ceremony where students and mentors are recognized and honored. The second event is Kenaitze Indian Tribe's annual Native Alaskan celebration. KIT will have youth events and demonstrations and learning centers for all interested attendees of all age groups. The third event is the MAPP visioning meeting. This is a time where community members can gather with a facilitator to discuss their ideas on what community health means to them and how to achieve changes or improvements in health in the Central Kenai Peninsula. This will include looking at successes in health in our area , i.e. CARTS, bike path construction, PCHS community health center, etc. , as well as formulating ideas on improving our systems or creating new systems. A concert with the native band Pamyua will end the day's events. 4. We will know if our project is successful by: 1) numbers of attendees, 2) the number of ideas generated from the MAPP visioning session, and 3) individuals or agencies that agree to join the MAPP effort. The plan was to wait until the weather permitted me to begin my project and submit a Mini -Grant Report Form within thirty (30) days of project completion. Now, roughly eight months later, I regret to inform you that the project never began and thus was never completed. Due to scheduling conflicts and lack of time management between home, work, and post - graduation career plans, the project sat unattended until the seasons changed and it is now too late to begin. In light of this failure to complete what was promised, I humbly apologize and am returning the check that was given to me. With sincer Dylar# Wannamaker
