RE: CITY OF KENAI 'TOGETHER WE CAM' MINI -GRANT PROGRAM
Tuition Fundraiser
Dear Ms. Nusbaum:
Thank you for submitting your City of Kenai "Together We Can" Mini -Grant application for
funding the above - referenced project. We were very pleased to receive the application and
believe your enthusiasm for this project is commendable.
At its June 7, 2013 meeting, the Mini -Grant Steering Committee reviewed your application and
found it did not meet the guidelines of the program, i.e. projects that will have an immediate,
positive, and long- lasting effect for neighborhoods in the City of Kenai.
We encourage you to seek other funding and bring your project to completion by working within
the community. If you have any questions, please contact me through the City Clerk at 283-

Provide a Description of the Group You Will Be Participating In:
I am a sophomore attending Kenai Central High School in Kenai, Alaska. I am working to raise money to fund
an unique educational and cultural experience as I was chosen as a Student Ambassador for the People to
People Student Ambassador 201$ Australian Journey. To take part in this opportunity, I must raise $7000 of
which I hake raised some money already. I am looking for monetary support and am greatly appreciative of
any contributions received.
The People to People Student Ambassador Programs provide unique student trips which are designed to
deliver a lifetime of global awareness and readiness for success in a fun filled 2-3 week summer adventure.
For over five decades, People to People Ambassador Programs introduced more than 500,000
Ambassadors to life- changing experiences on all seven continents:
-80% of our alumni are accepted into their first-choice college
-98% of parents recommend our educational travel programs
-94% of participating students recommend People to People Ambassador Programs' to their peers as these
educational trips cause Ambassadors to look at the world, its people, and international events differently. ft's
a change that could mean the difference between being passed over by the ideal employer, or a future full of
achievement. High school Ambassadors can earn academic credit through the Washington School of World
Studies. Eastern Washington University also offers early college credit to Ambassadors. Academic experts
recognize it as proof that real curriculum was wrapped into the student ambassadors educational tour.
Involvement in Community:
I have volunteered for many community events here in Kenai, most of which were for Frontier Community
Services. I have been a volunteer for the Frontier Community Services during holiday events and the World
Series Baseball Game since 2008. 1 have helped at the Spring Social sponsored by FCS, Hope Community
Resources, and Birchwood Center annually since 2011. Just last summer I volunteered at the City of Kenai
Animal Shelter. In the Kenai Peninsula Oilers season of 2011, 1 acted as a ball girl for the team. In my
Freshman year at Kenai Central High School, I received a letter for a 4.0 GPA, and this year, my sophomore
year, I received a 3.5 GPA. Throughout the Saturday Market this summer, my mother, sister, and myself will
be setting up a stand. We will be making and selling handcrafted items, and also sharing my educational and
cultural opportunity through the People to People Student Ambassador Program with others on the Kenai
Peninsula including summer tourists from other states. I have a memorandum of agreement with Bridges
Community Resources and New Beginning Family Services to utilize their business licenses and meet the
requirements to sell items at Kenai Saturday Market.
Project for Funding:
I will be raising money to fund my educational trip with the People to People Student Ambassador Program. I
am an individual requesting mini -grant funding to assist me in setting up at the Saturday Market in Kenai to
sell handmade arts and crafts of which all profits will go to fund my educational trip. If I am able to raise
enough funds for this project, I will be representing Kenai, Alaska during an educational experience of which I
will be able to earn college credit for. I will be able to share my experiences and culture with people of
another country for 20 days in the year of 2014.
Budget:
The $500 1 am requesting will fund the entire summer cost for space rental at the Kenai Summer Market for
17 Saturdays at $20 per Saturday resulting in a total of $340.00 and a shelter costing $250. 1 need to
purchase a shelter to cover my space rental to protect my items I am selling from the weather. Home Depot
sells a 10 X10 covering for $250.00. If I am granted the requested funding, it is my goal to earn the rest of
the cast of my educational experience with the People to People Student Ambassador Program. The cost of
this unique educational experience is $7,000 of which I have begun fundraising for and have earned $1560
to date.
Successful project:
If my project is successful, I will have the opportunity to share my experiences with Kenai Peninsula residents
and students about cultural experiences in another country. I will also have been able to educate another
country's community about our culture here in Kenai.
