ICAC is a network of law enforcement agencies who investigate Internet crimes against children. Participating agencies also provide awareness and prevention education in the community. The ICAC regional coordinator in Anchorage has agreed to reimburse the Kenai Police Department up to $3,300 for computerized investigative equipment that will assist officers of the Kenai Police Department as they investigate crimes against children cases. For several years, the ICAC regional coordinator has received federal funding to disperse to participating law enforcement agencies for ICAC equipment and training. The Kenai Police Department has received equipment and training reimbursements from ICAC on multiple occasions in the past. The investigative equipment to be purchased was not budgeted in the FY11 budget. I am requesting an ordinance appropriating $3,300 into the General Fund, Police Small Tools account to cover the costs of purchasing the equipment. ICAC will reimburse the City of Kenai upon proof of purchase and receipt of the equipment.
