HomeMy WebLinkAboutOrdinance No. 2641-2012thccUya( KENAI, ALASKA Suggested by: Administration CITY OF KENAI ORDINANCE NO. 2641 -2012 AN ORDINANCE OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF KENAI, ALASKA, INCREASING ESTIMATED REVENUES AND APPROPRIATIONS BY 510,000 IN THE PARK IMPROVEMENTS CAPITAL PROJECT FUND FOR CAPITAL IMPROVEMENTS IN MUNICIPAL PARK. WHEREAS, Alaska Public Entity Insurance (APEI), the City's insurance provider has a $10,000, matching grant program for the purchase of improved playground surfaces that reduce injuries; and, WHEREAS, the base bid for Municipal Park Improvements included $29,930 for installation of an engineered wood fiber surface that qualifies under the APEI program; and, WHEREAS, installation of an improved surface will reduce the potential for injury and is in the best interest of those who will utilize the park. Frates, Parks & Recreation Director DATE: July 11, 2012 SUBJECT: Alaska Public Entity Insurance (APEI) Playground Surfacing Grant 9 1111' 1992 The purpose of this memo is to recommend adoption of the Ordinance authorizing an increase in the estimated revenues and appropriations by $10,000 in the Park Improvements Capital Project Fund. The City applied for and was approved for a reimbursable grant through Alaska Public Entity Insurance (APEI) for playground safety surfacing. It is the City's intention to utilize this grant for the purchase and installation of engineered wood fiber for the Municipal Park Improvement Project. The base bid included $29,930 for acquisition and installation of the engineered wood fiber. The engineered wood fiber will provide optimum fall safety and meet wheelchair accessibility requirements.
