HomeMy WebLinkAboutResolution No. 2012-49the c<ty o/ KENAI, SKA Suggested by: Administration CITY OF KENAI RESOLUTION NO. 2012 -49 A RESOLUTION OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF KENAI, ALASKA, APPROVING A CONTRACT TO ALASKA ROADBUILDERS, INC. FOR IMPROVEMENTS TO THE KENAI SPUR HIGHWAY PEDESTRIAN PATHWAY FOR AN AMOUNT NOT -TO- EXCEED $100,000.00. WHEREAS, the contract will provide for the repair of existing asphalt /sub - grade, and supply and placement of new asphalt; and, WHEREAS, under KMC 7.15.050(f) the City of Kenai is able to utilize the State of Alaska contract with Alaska Roadbuilders, Inc.; and, WHEREAS, it is in the best interest of the City to accomplish repairs to the Kenai Spur Highway Pedestrian Pathways prior to the beginning of the 2012 -2013 school year; and, WHEREAS, sufficient monies are appropriated from funding received from the State of Alaska. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF KENAI, ALASKA, that the contract for Kenai Spur Highway Pedestrian Pathway Improvements be awarded to Alaska Roadbuilders, Inc., Inc. for the total amount not -to- exceed $100,000.00. PAT PORTER, MAYOR thesiyai/ KENA1, ALASKA "VUfaye with a Past, Cc with a Future 210 Fidalgo Avenue, Kenai, Alaska 99611 -7794 Telephone: 907 - 283 -7535 / FAX: 907 - 283 -3014 MEMO: TO: City Council FROM: Rick Koch DATE: July 25, 2012 SUBJECT: Resolution 2012 -49, Award of a Contract to Alaska Roadbuilders, inc. for Repairs /Improvements to the Kenai Spur Highway Pedestrian Pathway IIIIII The purpose of this correspondence is to recommend Council approval of the above referenced resolution. 1992 In SFY11 the City of Kenai received an appropriation in the amount of $100,000 from the State of Alaska for repairs to the pedestrian pathway along the Kenai Spur Highway in the City. Specifically, the area to be improved is from Bridge Access Road to the end of the five -lane section of the highway leading towards Soldotna. The improvements will be constructed mostly on the pathway on the south side of the highway (the side with KCHS, the middle and elementary schools). The improvements shall consist of leveling in areas where there has been differential settlement /movement of the asphalt and underlying materials, and an asphalt overlay of the existing pathway. The City will utilize an existing contract between the State of Alaska and Alaska Roadbuilders, Inc. to accomplish the work.
