SUBJECT: Resolution No. 2013 -02, Supporting Legislative Efforts to Construct
a Natural Gas Pipeline from the North Slope to South Central
Alaska
I respectfully request the support of the City Council for Resolution 2013 -02. In the past the City
Council has consistently supported the Governor's and Legislator's efforts to construct a natural
gas pipeline with its terminus in Cook Inlet.
Speaker Chenault and Representative Hawker have pre -filed House Bill 4 to provide the
necessary structure, changes to existing statute, and direction to move forward a natural gas
pipeline.
As we are all aware, south central Alaska's present and projected future consumption of clean
burning natural gas exceeds known natural gas reserves in the Cook Inlet Basin and it is
imperative that sufficient quantities of gas must be made available.
I suggest that this Resolution would best be sponsored by the Kenai City Council as a whole.
Thank you.
