I am 17 -year old senior at Kenai Central High School. For a Senior Civic Project, I have been tasked with creating and following through with a project that requires me to find a way to benefit the community and the residents who live here. Since our city sits on one of the largest rivers in Alaska, I researched the need for water rescue training. 1 found that many of the local fire departments do not have personnel trained in swiftwater rescue. I plan to bring two Nationally Certified Swiftwater Rescue instructors to the Kenai Peninsula to provide multiple fire departments with training in swiftwater emergencies. By providing this training, participating departments will be better prepared during responses. This further benefits the people of our community by increasing the effectiveness of these responders on the river while they attempt to save someone's life. In order to be successful, I will need to raise $13,000 by April 1, 2014. All of the money raised will go towards tuition for 24 firemen ($425 each), room and board for out of town firemen and instructors, and cost for the instructors to travel to the Kenai Peninsula. I would like to invite you to join me on October 26, 2013 from 1pm -4p m at the Kenai Visitors Center where I will be holding a Firefighter Meet and Greet. There will be a silent auction, food, live band, and much more! I am also offering you the opportunity to sponsor this community fundraiser. Your sponsorship will ensure that we are able to financially support and certify 24 Firefighters from across the Kenai Peninsula in Swiftwater Rescue. In addition, your business will benefit from the publicity you will receive as a sponsor. I look forward to hearing from you!
