RESOLUTION NO. 2014 -25

A RESOLUTION OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF KENAI, ALASKA, APPROVING
CITY COUNCIL POLICY 2014 -02, KENAI COUNCIL PUBLIC RECOGNITION POLICY,
ESTABLISHING PROCEDURES FOR COUNCIL EXPENDITURE OF FUNDS FOR
PUBLIC RECOGNITION.
WHEREAS, the Council recognizes a public benefit in the recognition, on behalf of the
Council and City, of certain events affecting the community, City officials and
employees; and,
WHEREAS, such events include, but are not limited to, retirements, special
achievements, serious injuries or illnesses, and death; and,
WHEREAS, it is in the best interest of the Council and City to establish a written
policy for the expenditure of funds for public recognition for purposes of clarity and
equity and to protect public interest.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF KENAI,
ALASKA:
Section 1. That City Council Policy 2014 -02, Kenai Council Public Recognition
Policy, attached, is approved to establish procedures for Council expenditure of funds
for public recognition.
Section 2. That this resolution takes effect immediately upon passage.

SUBJECT: Resolution No. 2014 -25
At the March 4, 2014, Council work session, Council Members in attendance discussed a
Council public recognition policy. A draft policy was discussed by Council at the April
2, 2014 regular council meeting. Having a Council public recognition policy is important
in that it provides clarity and equity to the process and protects the public's interest.

POLICY NO. 2014 -02, KENAI COUNCIL PUBLIC RECOGNITION POLICY
Purpose
The purpose of this policy is to establish procedures and limits for the expenditure of
Council funds in recognition of certain events affecting the community, City officials, and
employees.
Scope
This policy applies to funds expended by the Council for recognition of certain events
affecting the community, City officials, and employees.
Policy
1. The Council recognizes a public benefit in the recognition, on behalf of the
Council and City, of certain events affecting the community, City officials, and
employees. Pursuant to this policy, the Mayor is authorized to expend City funds
within budgeted amounts not to exceed $150 per event on gifts and other
appropriate items such as flowers. Council must approve by motion the
expenditure of any greater amount.
2. Events intended to be recognized, under this policy include, but are not limited to,
retirements, special achievements, serious injuries or illnesses, and deaths.
Effective Date: Approved by Resolution 2014 -25
