KENALALA SKA
TO: Rick Koch, City Manager
FROM: Sean Wedemeyer, Public Works Director
DATE: April 8, 2014
SUBJECT: Shop Mechanic
Rick,
Joe Rodrigues has submitted a retirement letter stating his last day will be June
30, 2014. 1 propose we hire his replacement as soon as possible to allow Joe to
provide them training.
Joe has a vast amount of experience performing particular tasks that most
mechanics will not have. The most notable example is up- fitting and
troubleshooting police vehicles. The City will greatly benefit by hiring the new
mechanic while Joe is still employed.
The Shop Department has had an easy fiscal year financially. There have been
less major repairs than on a typical year. Subsequently we are projecting a
surplus of funding in the operating supplies and repair and maintenance budgets.
I propose utilizing Fiscal Year 2014 Shop Department projected surplus funds to
fund the new Shop Mechanic for approximately seven weeks starting May 12,
2014.
