 the ctyofii MEMORANDUM
KENAI. ALASKA
PO:
Rick Koch, City Manager
FROM: Sean Wedemeyer, Public Works Director
DATE: April 29, 2014
SUBJECT: Award of an agreement for the city hall & senior center boiler
replacement and snowmelt addition
Rick,
This memo is in support of a resolution awarding an agreement for the city hall & senior
center boiler replacement and snowmelt addition to Orion Construction, Inc. for the
approximate amount of $348,000.00.
The base bid is to provide heated sidewalk snowmelt systems and new boilers at both
city hall and the senior center. Additive alternate one is to construct an ADA compliant
concrete ramp at the west door of the senior center dining room. Additive alternate two
adds a snowmelt system to that ramp. Additive alternate three replaces the domestic
water heater at the senior center.
After opening the bids I requested Wolverine to confirm their price because it was far
below the other bids and the engineer's estimate. They found a substantial error and
subsequently I accepted Wolverine's written request to withdrawal their bid.
I recommend this award. Thank you for your attention to this matter.
