RESOLUTION NO. 2014 -24

A RESOLUTION OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF KENAI, ALASKA, APPROVING
CITY COUNCIL POLICY 2014 -01, KENAI COUNCIL TRAVEL POLICY, ESTABLISHING
PROCEDURES FOR APPROVAL OF COUNCIL TRAVEL.
WHEREAS, Council Members occasionally travel for City business; and,
WHEREAS, there is no written policy or other established rules regarding how Council
travel is approved; and,
WHEREAS, it is in the best interest of the Council and the City, to establish a written
policy regarding the approval procedures for Council travel.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF KENAI,
ALASKA:
Section 1. That City Council Policy 2014 -01, Kenai Council Travel Policy, attached,
is approved to establish procedures for authorizing Council Member travel.
Section 2. That this resolution takes effect immediately upon passage.
PASSED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF KENAI, ALASKA, this 20th day of May,
2014.

POLICY NO. 2014 -01, KENAI COUNCIL TRAVEL POLICY
Purpose
The purpose of this policy is to establish rules for authorization and reporting of Council
Member travel on City business.
Scope
This policy applies to travel by the Mayor and other Council Members traveling on City
business.
Policy
1. Any Council member who intends to travel outside the City at the City's expense
must apply for and obtain, in advance of such travel if such travel was not
previously included in the adopted budget, approval as follows:
(a) The Mayor approves all ' thi the Alaska, d repeFts the approval
the GOURGOI as saeR as p ssible their own travel within the state;
(b) The Council, by motion, approves all other travel, except for any travel
outside Ala.#a "inside-the United States; and
(c) The Council by resolution approves any travel outside the United States.
2. Any Mayor or Council Member, who travels A-uA� Alaska, at the City's
expense, will be required to submit, in writing, a report of their activities and their

in writing at the next meeting following said travel.

At the April 16th City Council Meeting, Resolution No. 2014 -24 was postponed to the 2" d
meeting in May, providing an opportunity for a work session to further review and
discuss the policy. The attached Policy reflects the approved amendments made at the
April 16th meeting.
